An adaptable, low-cost, and easy-to-operate biological treatment system for pollutant abatement in aquaculture water at the field pond scale needs to be developed. In this study, removal capacity of a stable bioreactor wastewater was assessed, related mechanism elucidated via an analysis microbial community’s characteristics functions. The average efficiencies chemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, total nitrogen, phosphorus were 40%, 86.22%, 38.62%, 53.74%, respectively. effluent quality meets Requirement Water Discharge from Freshwater Aquaculture Pond, SC/T9101-2007. results indicate that fillers under anaerobic conditions could attract Denitratisoma unclassified_Rhodocyclaceae, promoting denitrification reaction. This aligns with characteristic nitrogen sewage mainly exists form nitrate nitrogen. atmosphere helps degrade organic contaminants liquid interfaces remove solid phase. Bacteroidota promote production polysaccharides biofilms, which may associated removal. stage can formation biofilm on pollutants, thus achieving higher efficiency.

Abstract The aquaculture sector is facing environmental issues because of rising chemical pollution aquatic systems, which may be caused by man-made or natural causes. combined action these mixtures can produce an effect that either severalfold higher lower than the overall toxicity individual components. objective this study to evaluate impact three toxicants: lead (Pb 0.088 mg L −1 ), mercury (Hg 0.084 and pendimethalin (PM 0.355 ) their combinations on behavior, oxidative stress, immunology, biochemistry, histopathological changes in Nile tilapia. results show mortality was evident across all treatment groups highest mixture (MIX) group, at 33.4%. Some behavioral included increased mucus secretion, fin rot, dark skin coloration fish, were evidently exacerbated MIX group. erythrocyte hemoglobin indices presented marked reductions PM comparison control group had levels serum creatinine urea, as well liver enzymes alanine aminotransferase, aspartate transaminase, alkaline phosphatase. They also malondialdehyde total antioxidant capacity, showed stress. stress biomarkers, cortisol glucose, greater groups. neurobehavioral assessment demonstrated noticeable decreased acetylcholinesterase MIX-exposed In immunological parameters, nitric oxide lysozyme lower, especially experimental groups, spleen pro-inflammatory cytokine genes higher. examination revealed lesions gills, liver, brains form inflammation, necrosis, circulatory alterations. Among exposed exhibited changes. Collectively, our findings significant toxic effects heavy metals herbicides tilapia, revealing a synergistic both physiological responses resulting from exposures. data indicate ecological hazards associated with ecosystems.

The global demand for local and high-quality food sources has increased in recent decades, driven by consumer preferences a growing population. RAS, hydroponics ‘hybrid’ version, aquaponics, are production techniques that could support such demand. current study evaluated coupled aquaponics (Jade perch lettuce) with without mineral supplementation comparison to standard cultivation methods, i.e., RAS hydroponics. was carried out using commercial blend fertilizer (10% of the dosage utilised treatment). Fish/plant performance, nutrient dynamics water quality were 9 weeks twelve experimental units (~720 L total; fish tank/reservoir + filtration systems/sump floating raft-based plant tank). After two crops plants, results showcased positive impact aquaponics; however, treatment outperformed treatments, e.g., higher total wet weight length (p < 0.05). Fish presented similar growth performance as compared > By comparing these different farming approaches, this sought provide insights into optimising systems advancing integration Jade aquaculture practices.
