Background/Objectives: The dairy industry relies on reproductive efficiency to maintain efficient milk production. Spontaneous abortion (SA), defined as pregnancy loss between gestation days 42 and 260, occurred in 4.5% of the artificially inseminated (AI) Holstein heifers 31.6% embryo transfer (ET) recipient that received vitro-produced frozen embryos a single farm Idaho. Methods: A genome-wide association analysis (GWAA) was performed identify associations (FDR p < 0.05) with SA were bred by AI (1351 controls delivered at term 63 cases aborted) conceived following first insemination, well 59 273 ET pregnant from ET. Results: There 216 loci 413 positional candidate genes associated recessive model no recipients. Conclusions: identification may be used reduce fetal through genomic selection.
