The aim of this study was to highlight the interrelationship between environmental, social, and economic pillars agricultural sustainability their impact on rural development in EU countries. By considering cumulative influence 15 economic, environmental indicators, clustered countries into five homogeneous groups using principal component analysis cluster analysis. research findings confirm that there is a significant trade-off three dimensions sustainability, particularly dimension, one hand, socio–economic other. Thus, main real challenges identified for included 5 (Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Hungary) are related pillar sustainability. Moreover, four (Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland), two different clusters, achieving goals such as reducing emissions (SDG 2.60) increasing area under organic farming 2.40) represents issue sustainable agriculture. results highlighted specific agriculture can hinder its effects development. Therefore, tailored measures should be designed efficiently address these issues.

The purpose of this paper was to analyze the possibility changes in energy intensity production context farm investment scale. empirical section relies on unpublished FADN microdata. study answers question whether investments and fixed capital growth can contribute improvements environmental performance agricultural production. As it turns out, group farms with greatest amount saw an increase consumption costs, though at a much slower rate than value. result, there drop production, defined as ratio between costs These findings corroborate hypothesis advanced study, namely that upon reaching sufficiently large investments, become capable reducing their activity. Hence, higher levels productivity are attained when invest more energy-efficient assets. Conclusions cannot be universal, analysis involved portion selected farms. However, research indicates trend depending scale validity comprehensiveness approach. conclusions provide basis for recommendations policy which should include support comprehensive (in relation farm’s assets) go beyond simple renewal Therefore, its investment-oriented measures, take innovativeness (including efficiency) criterion into account.

All sectors the economy, including agriculture, require stimulation, which should be triggered linkages structural changes contributing qualitative quantitative progress. Agriculture substantial impact on environmental footprint, playing pivotal role in causing climate change. this article address research gap concerning monitoring agricultural within European Union. assessment sustainability complex process since it multidisciplinary field study with practical implications. progress was evaluated through comprehensive analysis relevant literature statistical data obtained from Eurostat database Research Institute Organic FiBL. encompasses period between 2015 2022. employs taxonomic method, specifically linear ordering method (standardised sum method), enables construction synthetic measure. This approach enabled creation rankings comparisons Union countries. studies show that Union, agriculture territorial differentiation. measures countries highest scores (Estonia, Sweden, Finland, Austria) were 2–3 times higher than lowest (Cyprus, Belgium, Greece, Bulgaria). A similar situation observed for measures—the maximum Bulgaria, Slovakia, Lithuania) about two minimum (Poland, Malta, Slovenia, Luxembourg). findings indicate that, one hand, there have been favourable developments at national level Europe, but also are number existing disparities, together evidence potentially deviations targets set out 2030 Agenda.
