Abstract The publication of ethnobiological data raises crucial ethical questions regarding the rights Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLC) Afro-descendants other Marginalized, Minority, or Minoritized (AMMC). While ethnobiology as a discipline is rooted in principles that emphasize respect appreciation for these communities, question remains: Is publishing always respectful knowledge holders’ rights? This article argues answer contingent on how research conducted, consent obtained, handled disseminated. We need nuanced approach goes beyond compliance with guidelines embraces epistemic justice, equitable benefit-sharing, genuine co-production knowledge. By distinguishing between raw traditional systematized within scientific paradigms, we highlight potential risks misappropriation epistemological implications translating diverse systems into western frameworks. also discuss limitations Free, Prior, Informed Consent (FPIC) safeguard propose alternative strategies ensuring IPLC AMMC autonomy production process. Finally, advocate hybrid transformative to fostering collaborations researchers communities. embedding considerations at every stage process, argue can evolve actively contributes social sustainability, recognition epistemologies.
