We employed a bottom-up modeling framework to examine set of scenarios generate insights on the techno-economic and environmental implications increasing levels electric vehicle (EV) penetration using Nigeria as case study. Results indicate that, despite having natural gas-dominated electricity system, deployment EVs can support decarbonization transportation power sectors but at relatively high cost. The cost would need drop by ∼40% become cost-competitive. However, if variable renewable energy sources deliver requirement with bidirectional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging strategy, then decline only ∼30%. Not all participate in V2G strategy order realize full benefits strategy. Expanding renewables capacity leads additional reduction CO2 emission different magnitudes based

Paratransit, in particular the minibus taxi, is mainstay of public transport sub-Saharan Africa. These vehicles are often second-hand, ageing, fuel inefficient, and expensive to operate - issues that electrification can ameliorate. However, modeling planning large-scale transitions electric paratransit require reliable estimates vehicle energy consumption. This paper provides such by applying a kinetic model per-second GPS data gathered on taxis. Data include 62 trips across three routes with different driving conditions near Stellenbosch, South We find range consumption from 0.29 0.51 kWh/km (mean = 0.39 kWh/km). Paratransit provides the majority of road transport in South Africa and many other countries sub-Saharan African region. However, perceptions electric vehicles (EV) factors that influence intention to adopt EVs for critical agents this sector, vehicle owners drivers, have yet be explored. The aim study is provide insights can inform policies strategies promote To achieve this, we collected 4,452 survey responses from paratransit drivers Africa. 38% respondents expressed a willingness purchase an EV when they become available. Using structural equation modeling, test eleven hypotheses regarding adoption intention, based on innovative integrated framework consumer behavior. results show risk perceptions, environmental considerations perception cost strongest although come into play, with ten out being supported. most salient takeaway model output interventions emphasize safety business advantages will effective at improving but diversity thoughtful approaches necessary ensure significant lasting change area. The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into power systems worldwide will be challenged in many locations by grid constraints, such as load shedding developing countries or active network management developed countries. Nevertheless, an opportunity exists for EV fleets to alleviate financial and operational repercussions these constraints while reducing carbon emissions through integrated photovoltaic-energy storage-charging station (PV-ES-CS) systems. However, the effectiveness PV-ES-CS depends on they serve, commercial may only partially electrify their vehicle stock, thus limiting energy demand. Consequently, there is a need methodologies that incorporate design techno-economic assessments systems, alongside understanding impact varying levels fleet penetration system performance. We develop novel methodology incorporates PV-ES capacity optimization model, investigate impacts optimistic conservative constraint scenarios different degrees performance case study paratransit Dobsonville, South Africa. To determine most cost-effective PV ES components are optimized maximize net present value (NPV). Three generalized insights emerge from analysis: first relates importance timing investments based planned electrification strategy. second sheds light sensitivity frequency forecasting, emphasizing nuanced adaptive strategies regions with pervasive constraints. third explores influence trickle charging feasibility economic performance, particularly at lower penetration. Enhanced utilization emerges promising avenue improve viability especially morning evening peak loads. Collectively, contribute advancing renewable operations capital-constrained environments.
