Abstract The goal of this research is to investigate the use different gases serve as cushion minimize H2 loss in underground storage (UHS). A detailed study performed using a compositional numerical reservoir simulator. We constructed base model that uses gas. Next, we developed three scenarios where CH4, N2, and CO2 are used gas, analyzed impact each gas on overall performance UHS. fluid account for density viscosity mixture gases. Our results indicated CH4 emerges optimal choice, followed by subsequently CO2. However, maximizing recovery from 63% 77% was at cost lowering purity. Yet, an alternative played vital role minimizing spreading hydrogen, consequently preventing into formation.
