This review highlights the latest advancements in thermal energy storage systems for renewable energy, examining key technological breakthroughs phase change materials (PCMs), sensible storage, and hybrid systems. Practical applications managing solar wind residential industrial settings are analyzed. Current challenges research opportunities discussed, providing an overview of field’s current future state. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, 1040 articles were initially screened, resulting 49 high-quality studies included final synthesis. These grouped into innovations TES systems, PCMs, management efficiency, integration with TES. The underscores significant progress identifies directions to enhance TES’s reliability, sustainability applications.
