This paper provides a systematic overview of machine learning methods applied to solve NP-hard Vehicle Routing Problems (VRPs). Recently, there has been great interest from both the and operations research communities in solving VRPs either through pure or by combining them with traditional handcrafted heuristics. We present taxonomy studies on paradigms, solution structures, underlying models, algorithms. Detailed results state-of-the-art are presented, demonstrating their competitiveness approaches. The survey highlights advantages learning-based models that aim exploit symmetry VRP solutions. outlines future directions incorporate solutions address challenges modern transportation systems.

The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is a combinatorial optimization that determines optimal routes to enhance distribution efficiency. One of the most popular strategies in freight multi-echelon distribution. Multi-echelon networks often apply supply chain management, land transportation, maritime industry, aviation, etc., and rely on VRP. This comprehensive review systematically analyses 382 papers retrieved through Scopus database. We use bibliometric network analysis tool complete systematic literature mapping identifying key interrelationships research clusters. depicts five main clusters: green logistics decision analysis, scheduling inventory optimization, VRP for city logistics, mathematical modeling outbound customer service, identified based author keywords derived paper pool. Each cluster provided with foundational knowledge, concepts, theories, employed techniques. The development of COVID-19 in China has gradually become normalized; thus, the prevention and control pandemic encountered new problems: amount infectious medical waste (IMW) increased sharply; location outbreaks are highly unpredictable; occurs everywhere. Thus, it is vital to design an effective IMW reverse logistics network cope with these problems. This paper firstly introduces mobile processing centers (MPCs) into for resource-saving, quick response, sufficient capacity centers. Then, a multi-participant-based (public central hospitals, disposal institutions, providers, government) collaborative routing optimization model built from economic, environmental perspective. An augmented ε-constraint method developed solve this proposed model. Through case study Chongqing, found that uncertain outbreak situations, fixed (FPCs) MPCs can form better strategies. MPC expand flexibly response sudden increase IMW. results demonstrate good performance reduction cost infection risk, which could greatly support decision making management government control.

The half-open multi-depot vehicle routing problem (HOMDVRP) is a typical decision optimization in the field of collaborative logistics that considers resource sharing. This study aims to develop an effective meta-heuristic algorithm for solving HOMDVRP. Firstly, mixed-integer programming model HOMDVRP established minimize total travel distance vehicles. After that, novel hybrid adaptive simulated annealing and tempering (HASATA) proposed based on features combines strengths large-neighborhood search balance algorithm’s searching capabilities both breadth depth. Meanwhile, Markov chain length mechanism are designed improve computational efficiency convergence ability. Finally, simulation experiments conducted verify effectiveness performance algorithm. Four comparison algorithms selected analyzed using 24 groups instances. results show HASATA can solve more efficiently obtain solution with better satisfactory stability.
