Abstract The greatest and fastest advances in the computing world today require researchers to develop new problem-solving techniques capable of providing an optimal global solution considering a set aspects restrictions. Due superiority metaheuristic Algorithms (MAs) solving different classes problems promising results, MAs need be studied. Numerous studies algorithms fields exist, but this study, comprehensive review MAs, its nature, types, applications, open issues are introduced detail. Specifically, we introduce metaheuristics' advantages over other techniques. Abstract Offshore wind farms (OWFs) play a crucial role in producing renewable energy modern electrical power systems. However, to ensure that these facilities operate smoothly, they require robust control As result, this paper employed the newly developed Walrus Optimization algorithm (WaOA) optimize design parameters of fractional-order proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) controllers electronic interface circuits studied conversion system (WECS). In contrast conventional optimization techniques like GA and PSO, suggested approach proves more effective. The validates WaOA application optimizing FOPID within WECS comprising two, onshore offshore, VSC stations at two ends an HVDC transmission connecting OWFs mainland. study shows outperforms improving stability enabling quick recovery after disturbances. carried out using MATLAB/Simulink highlights significance recently introduced efficient reliable operation offshore systems, thereby expediting transition sustainable sources.
