Heavy metal contamination of water sources has emerged as a major global environmental concern, threatening both aquatic ecosystems and human health. pollution in the environment is on rise due to industrialization, climate change, urbanization. Sources include mining waste, landfill leachates, municipal industrial wastewater, urban runoff, natural phenomena such volcanic eruptions, weathering, rock abrasion. ions are toxic, potentially carcinogenic, can bioaccumulate biological systems. metals cause harm various organs, including neurological system, liver, lungs, kidneys, stomach, skin, reproductive systems, even at low exposure levels. Efforts find efficient methods remove heavy from wastewater have increased recent years. Although some approaches effectively contaminants, their high preparation usage costs may limit practical applications. Many review articles been published toxicity treatment for removing wastewater. This focuses main pollution, chemical transformation, toxicological impacts environment, harmful effects ecosystem. It also examines advances cost-effective techniques physicochemical adsorption using biochar zeolite ion exchangers, well decomposition complexes through advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Finally, advantages, applications, future potential these discussed, along with any challenges limitations that must be considered.

Clays and clay minerals are inexpensive, non-toxic, naturally occurring that have been utilized in water remediation as adsorbents. However, clays those modified with heat, surfactants, acids, or organic-inorganic modifiers exhibit low adsorption capacity re-generation ability towards organic pollutants. The development of composites has gained considerable attention recent years due to their enhanced capacity, ease recovery from aqueous solution improved physiochemical properties relative raw minerals. This review aims assess literature on including bentonite, montmorillonite kaolinite intercalated carbonaceous, metals, metal oxides, chitosan polymeric materials appraise performance examines the effect composites' physicochemical evaluates mechanism well regeneration methods. also attempts highlight current progress this area by assessing outcomes recently published articles outline research gaps for future research.

As a scarce natural resource, the preservation of water quality is fundamental importance to guarantee its availability for future generations. Due increasing industrial activity, effluents are generated with series chemical compounds, such as nitrogenous, phosphoric, and organic heavy metals, dyes which, if improperly disposed of, contribute contamination, followed by significant environmental impacts, in addition damage human health. The adsorption technique an effective approach removing contaminants from effluents, showing high versatility, due use various materials adsorbents. Belonging wide variety materials, zeolites reveal be promising adsorbent. Zeolites minerals found nature or which can synthesized residues, standing out treatment contaminated effluents. Zeolite removal efficiency depends on contaminant removed reach up 96% 90% phosphoric dyes, 80% nitrogen 89% organics. Aiming at identification more relevant findings research gaps advance large-scale review recent application needed. This paper presents global view zeolites, conducted several studies using adsorbents considered, indicating main characteristics systems, demonstrating particularities each process, aiming useful information provide research, identifying points that need further investigation.
