Aquatic plants play a crucial role in the sustainable management of eutrophic water bodies, serving as valuable tool for purification. However, effectiveness using aquatic improving quality is influenced by landscape considerations. In practical applications, challenges arise concerning low purification efficiency and compromised aesthetic appeal when utilizing To address these issues, this study aimed to examine impact on simulated specifically focusing mosaic system submerged–emerged remediating bodies. Our findings indicated that individual exhibited limited efficacy pollutant (total nitrogen, total phosphorus, ammonia chemical oxygen demand) removal. combined appropriate proportions, submerged could enhance species growth improve polluted Notably, neither significantly promoted nor inhibited each other, but it effectively removed pollutants from bodies turbidity increase. The comprehensive evaluation ranked capacity Canna indica-submerged combination (C + S) > Thalia dealbata-submerged (T Iris pseudacorus-submerged (I Lythrum salicaria-submerged (L S). Both C S T configurations mitigated rise offered appealing benefits, making them viable options applications urban highlights means combines aesthetics efficiency.

Abstract Indonesia is renowned as an agricultural powerhouse, ranking first globally in oil palm production. This prominence agriculture leads to the consistent generation of agro-industrial waste, notably Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME). Effectively addressing these waste concerns important due their adverse impacts on aquatic ecosystems and nation’s health economy. Anthropogenic wastewater with excessive phosphorus content can trigger eutrophication toxic algal blooms, posing environmental risks potentially precipitating a future clean water crisis. Thus, comprehensive approach necessary restore environment biogeochemical cycles. Treatment efforts involving bioremediation agents aim recycle organic inorganic pollutants environment. Photosynthetic organisms like plants microalgae serve effective agents, capable absorbing excess phosphorus. They utilize phosphate energy source boost biomass. Integrating bioengineering technology optimizes treatment efficacy while simultaneously producing valuable biomass for products bioenergy. review article explores photosynthetic organisms’ multifunctional role treatment, minimizing pollutant impacts, providing fertilizers, polymers, bioplastics, renewable energy. Furthermore, this study unveils opportunities technological advancements field.
