Abstract Biosurfactants have been profiled as a sustainable replacement for chemical-based surfactants since these bio-based molecules higher biodegradability. Few research papers focused on assessing biosurfactant production to elucidate potential bottlenecks. This aims assess the techno-economic and environmental performance of surfactin in scale 65m 3 , considering different product yields involving European energy crisis 2021–2022.
