Waste management and valorization are seen as pivotal drivers for adopting a circular economy. The production of volatile fatty acids (VFA) through anaerobic digestion (AD) fits perfectly into these emerging social industrial dynamics, being the VFA considered valuable products, namely in chemical industries. Therefore, this work focuses on AD, using wastes wastewaters, with high salinity content (20 g/L) continuous bioreactors. effect micro-aeration during acidogenesis high-salinity wastes/wastewaters was accessed more than 500 days, divided 5 main periods, by analysing different physicochemical parameters like oxidation–reduction potential (ORP), salinity, pH, COD, profile. Sludge properties were also analysed quantitative image analysis (QIA) integrating Principal Component Analysis (PCA). results demonstrate that does not appear limiting factor, soluble COD (30 constant operation time both reactors, well VFA/sCOD ratio (60 % − 80 %). Due to micro-aeration, differences between anoxic (R1) microaerophilic (R2) reactors observed, second one presenting lower value ORP some periods assay. This indicates presence aerobic or facultative microorganisms, which have consumed oxygen. Also, higher concentrations hexanoate reactor obtained those periods. application QIA combined PCA has revealed significantly impacts morphology size aggregates.
