Since the mid-20th century, quantity of microplastics (MPs) has increased significantly, becoming a persistent environmental pollutant widely distributed in global water bodies, soils, and atmosphere. While plastic materials have brought significant convenience to daily life, MPs resulting from their degradation pose increasing threats ecosystems human health. This comprehensive review examines sources, migration pathways, ecological impacts MPs, critically evaluates current separation techniques physical, chemical, biological perspectives. In particular, numerical simulations hydrocyclone technique reveal its unique flow characteristics, including turbulent velocity gradients axial pressure differences, with efficiency up 93%. offers advantages such as high efficiency, low energy consumption, friendliness. response growing microplastic pollution issue, this emphasizes that development future should prioritize sustainability, compatibility. Continued research field will provide theoretical support for optimizing control technologies contribute achieving protection sustainable goals.

Microplastics can be lethal to human health and the environment. Due increasing amount of microplastics in environment, it is significant access determine different methods techniques reduce remove particularly wastewater. This study has conducted a systematic review analyze identify what kinds are suitable for microplastic removal domestic municipal The researchers utilized search engines research databases, namely Google Scholar, Science Direct/ Elsevier, NCBI, IWA Publishing, look select eligible literature related this study. eligibility criteria as follows: clearly stated or used removing microplastics; mentioned type removed; specified wastewater source, either wastewater; quantitative scientific paper published between 2016 2024; original studies full-text articles that were English; studied multiple countries. Only considered; others not excluded. 20 134 downloaded analyzed by review. result showed best primary secondary treatment electrocoagulation, electro-flotation (EC/EF), membrane filtration process (MFP) with 100% efficiency. Meanwhile, most efficient method tertiary laboratory-scale sand filter, up
