Abstract This paper presents four one‐component Type II visible‐light‐absorbing chalcones ( CY10‐13 ) that containing various fused aromatic rings as its π‐conjugated moiety, is a 2‐naphthalene moiety for CY10 , 1‐naphthalene CY11 benzofuran CY12, and benzothiophene CY13 . The absorption region changes significantly when introducing rings. However, they all exhibit good properties ranging from 300 to 450 nm can be well‐matched under ultraviolet (UV), 365 405 light irradiations. Furthermore, the structure–reactivity relationship also studied through thermal, photochemical, electrochemical, computation properties. Finally, demonstrate photoinitiating ability without additive additional hydrogen donor in their systems. Both of CY12 based formulations initiate sufficiently upon UV light‐emitting diode (LED)@405 exposures. triphenylamine‐substituted chalcone analogous CY8 added comparison. Although compounds have lower harvesting regions than some those new better photoreactivity. Thus, fuses ring featuring straightforward synthesis well versatile performance, has great potential photopolymerization applications.
