ABSTRACT
Scope
Arecoline,
the
main
alkaloid
in
areca
nut,
has
shown
potential
modulating
metabolism
and
gut
microbiota.
This
study
aimed
to
evaluate
its
therapeutic
effects
on
glucose
lipid
metabolism,
inflammation,
liver
function,
mechanisms
a
Type
2
diabetes
mellitus
(T2DM)
mouse
model.
Methods
results
T2DM
was
established
mice
with
high‐fat,
high‐sugar
diet,
streptozotocin
injections.
Arecoline
significantly
reduced
fasting
blood
glucose,
enhanced
tolerance,
increased
insulin
sensitivity.
Serum
profiles
showed
marked
decreases
total
cholesterol,
triglycerides,
LDL‐C
levels.
Systemic
as
measured
by
serum
levels
of
IL‐1β,
IL‐6,
MCP‐1,
decreased
significantly.

transcriptomic
