Authentication of Protected Designation Origin (PDO) Kalamata olive oil is required to assess its quality in the marketplace compared with other varieties. Concretely, located southern Greece geographic county Messenia, which part region Peloponnese and famous for extra virgin produced from Koroneiki variety. Intuitively, PDO oil, established by Council regulation (EC) No 510/2006, owes special characteristics geographical environment, tree variety, human factor. However, authentication a challenging task when it blended varieties, such as Aigialeia variety that cultivated Achaia, also Peloponnese. Subsequently, process achieved adopting potentiality certain statistical machine learning models. Specifically, this paper, random classification model authenticate Aigialeia. adopted authenticates based on synchronous excitation-emission fluorescence (SyEE) spectroscopy applied data samples. Experiments performed evaluate efficiency classifier. observed results promise define originality exploiting unique characteristics.

This study investigates the potential of 1H NMR spectroscopy for predicting key chemical and sensory attributes in olive oil. By integrating data with traditional analyses evaluation, we developed multivariate models to evaluate predictive power spectra coupled machine learning algorithms 50 distinct oil quality parameters, including physicochemical properties, fatty acid composition, total polyphenols, tocopherols, attributes. We applied Random Forest regression correlate these achieving promising results, particularly major acids, tocopherols. have also found collected be highly effective classifying cultivars years harvest. Our findings highlight as a rapid, non-destructive, environmentally friendly tool assessment. introduces novel approach that combines spectral analysis analytical essential qualitative parameters leveraging proxies, this methodology offers alternative assessment techniques, enabling rapid determination several related attributes, geographical origin samples.

Given its huge economic, nutritional, and social value, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is an essential food. This flagship product of the countries bordering Mediterranean basin one most frauded products worldwide. Although traditional chemical analyses have demonstrated to be reliable tools for drupes EVOO quality assessment, they present several drawbacks; urgent need fast non-destructive techniques thus motivated this review. lack comprehensive reviews in literature, our first aim was summarize current knowledge regarding applying spectroscopies, imaging analyses, other olives EVOO. The second highlight innovative futuristic applications outline future research prospects within strategic production chain. With respect drupes, interesting results were obtained using RGB NIR spectroscopy, particularly portable devices specific digital cameras in-field or in-mill monitoring. Nevertheless, it important that spectroscopy integrated with flesh hardness measurements, given higher reliability parameter compared skin color. Finally, EVOO, although useful visible imagining, UV–Visible, NIR, Mid-Infrared spectroscopies been found, online monitoring strikes us as being technique improving chain near future.

Abstract A particular aspect of quality control virgin olive oil (VOO) is the mandatory application, together with chemical and instrumental determinations, a standardized official method for sensory assessment. The latter, known as Panel test, carried out by trained assessors contributes to classification VOOs into three commercial categories (extra virgin, lampante). One drawback this related large number samples be analyzed, compared work capacity panel, especially during selection purchase companies that blend market oils conducted authorities verify declared category. For reason, it helpful develop validate robust rapid screening methods, based on volatile fingerprints, preclassify each sample one categories. Considering strict relation between compounds main attributes (fruity defects), gas‐chromatographic fingerprint can right choice. In paper, comparison two emerging techniques, namely, headspace‐gas chromatography‐ion mobility spectrometry (HS‐GC‐IMS) flash‐gas chromatography (FGC), applied set 49 VOOs, using calibrations previously built larger samples, presented. correctly classified respect category determined was satisfactory comparable (92% HS‐GC‐IMS, 94% FGC), confirming effectiveness both methods robustness predictive models. Practical Applications : demand tools reduce assessed test has increased in recent years. validation models their joint adoption well bodies could nonconformities increase batches VOO being controlled, thus better protecting consumer. Therefore, desirable have different available analyze compounds, associated calibration models, along detailed instructions alternatives suit equipment individual laboratories.
