Natural forests play a crucial role in providing various ecosystem services, including timber production and biodiversity conservation. However, climate change anthropogenic factors pose severe threat to competing forest services functions. Therefore, optimize sustainably utilize tradeoffs are often necessary. This study was conducted Northwest China explore aimed at improving the quality of Quercus wutaishanica Mayr natural under conditions, focusing on stand volume, production, understory vegetation diversity Data from 77 field surveys were used construct coupled model for growth, structure, site conditions. Changes species number (UVSN) with crown cover quantified. These models relationships can be as tools estimate tradeoffs. As density increased, single-tree volume decreased, whereas increased. UVSN increased then decreased increasing able maintain relative maximum 0.5–0.65. Under current climatic optimum densities corresponding 30, 40, 50, 60 years 1390, 1153, 1042, 871 trees/ha, respectively, high adequate volume. When mean annual temperature rose, could reduced high-quality timber. Although only two major considered, presented this inform future research improve forests.

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for forest certification and certified products in Europe. This trend is related to major worldwide challenges, such as the need decarbonize economy mitigate climate change but also social consumer demands wider fair trade. However, whether influences economic valorization forestry remains a question. The aim of this study analyze levels across Europe identify potential relationships between level areas relevant indicators at country level. collected openly available data on total areas, indicators, environmental 28 European countries explored correlation performance sector. Findings show that can significantly improve forests. It more pronounced positive effect incomes than costs’ reduction. While costs do rise with extent area, they tend stabilize larger scales, suggesting process economically sustainable scale relevant. Czechia Netherlands stand out having highest net values added certification, reflecting effective exploration resources. offers new perspectives natural scientists, well industry policy makers, by proving contextualized support decision making. Additionally, it provides hints further studies guidelines development impact schemes.

Severe forest fires caused by extremely high temperatures have resulted in devastating disasters the natural reserves of New South Wales, Australia. Traditional research methods primarily rely on manual field surveys, which limited generalization capabilities. In order to monitor ecosystems more comprehensively and maintain stability regional ecosystem, as well post-disaster ecological restoration efforts, this study employed high-resolution remote sensing imagery proposed a semantic segmentation architecture named CCE-UNet. This focuses precise identification coverage while simultaneously monitoring distribution water resources area. utilizes Contextual Information Fusion Module (CIFM) introduces dual attention mechanism strategy effectively filter background information enhance image edge features. Meanwhile, it employs multi-scale feature fusion algorithm maximize retention details depth information, achieving forests bodies. We also trained seven models candidates. Experimental results show that CCE-UNet achieves best performance, demonstrating optimal performance body tasks, with MIoU reaching 91.07% MPA 95.15%. provides strong technical support for detection region is conducive protection ecosystem.

Protection of vulnerable species often creates conflicts between land use and conservation management. Particularly challenging is the case Siberian flying squirrel (SFS; Pteromys volans). SFS favours mature forest habitats, which are target for logging, therefore its protection causes opportunity costs. In our analysis a regional study was applied as platform to create alternative management scenarios. These scenarios aimed maintain improve habitats with varying magnitudes, from no action in habitat improvement increasing amount suitable SFS. Stand projections each scenario were modelled Motti stand simulator, simulated structures further analyzed using specific indexes Geographic Information System (GIS) methodologies tools predict potential nesting feeding connectivity Connectivity assessed Least Cost Path analysis. The results showed that some more cost-efficient than others maintaining suitability Further, adjusted cutting removals (due restrictions other related, mainly recreation) an additional hectare considerably without adjustment.
