SUMMARY Ligustrum lucidum , an important ornamental and medicinal plant in the Oleaceae family, has become a globally notorious invasive species because of its high adaptability. However, lack quality genome hindered understanding genetic basis for broad adaptability mechanisms component synthesis. In this study, we successfully assembled gap free telomere to L. . Through reconstruction phylogenetic tree, presented evidence that Jasmineae diverged from earlier than Forsythieae, which challenges existing relationships within Oleaceae. Comparative genomics found two rounds gene family expansions significantly increased number genes related biotic abiotic stress resistances, may lay foundation Among fruits January March our investigation, results metabolome show be optimal harvesting time. By integrating genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic data, identified candidate involved synthesis compounds, such as specnuezhenide, salidroside, oleanolic acid. This study provides valuable genomic resources comparative studies research

The tree Ligustrum lucidum (W. T. Aiton, Oleaceae), native to East Asia (China), has become an aggressive invader of subtropical and temperate forests around the world. To understand how its local small-scale spread is controlled, we studied (48 plots 4 m−2), in a forest Uruguay, distribution survival seedlings, saplings, poles assess effects dispersal from mother trees (distance), microsite type (forest stands defined by dominant species), past control measures. propagule pressure L. lucidum, estimated through seedlings density, was between 100 1000 times higher than that other species community concentrated (<10 m distance). Spatial variability densities were explained interaction distance stands. Significative lower observed patches (stands) dominated Jodina rhombifolia, field experiment confirmed at stands, demonstrating some resistance mechanism operating there. We propose two biotic mechanisms resistance: herbaceous competition and/or roots hemiparasitism J. reducing seedling sapling survival. concluded high pressure, trees, patchy domination process forest.

Abstract Background What factors, processes and mechanisms regulate invasive their effects? This is one of the main questions addressed by ecology biological invasions. Ligustrum lucidum , a tree species native to East Asia, became an aggressive invader subtropical temperate forests around world. We analyzed here L. invasion in Uruguayan determine factors controlling two stages process, establishment, dominance. Establishment was assessed occurrence, measured 1525, 1 × km-cells, dominance remotely measuring coverage at forest canopy 5554, km-cells. The occurrence were modeled using Generalized Linear Models function independent environmental geographic variables. Results has become established 13.4% dominated 1.2%. Our models explained 45% 35% spatial variance respectively detected both cases strong diffusion patterns from S-SW region rest Uruguay. Occurrence increased mainly urban areas, with proximity towns, probably because trees planted gardens are seed sources, near railways highways, that could as corridors. also loamy soils rivers, suggesting moisture conditions favorable for establishment. Dominance reduced area, high productive higher altitudes. Moreover, roads, railways, well highly afforested landscapes, low-rockiness soils. Conclusions spread impact stages, currently expansion focus on region, where oldest urbanizations settled, towards country. predictor establishment Additionally, whereas manly facilitated human infrastructures improving propagule pressure dispersion, enhanced small or fragmented patches, rich-nutrient soils, altitudes, ecosystem resistance operating.
