Understanding the immune response in fish through transcriptomic and microRNA (miRNA) profiling may unlock critical insights into disease resistance mechanisms. The objective of present study was to examine modulation European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) following bacterial infection vaccination. Therefore, sequencing circulating miRNA isolated from blood serum 3'UTR transcriptome head kidney conducted. In infected 19 miRNAs were found be differentially expressed. This included two novel exhibiting high levels fish. Regarding vaccination, three specific have been identified that demonstrated a substantial increase expression. Two them, miR-216b miR-30a-5p, documented possess capacity delay progression viral infections. analysis revealed no significant enrichment down-regulated transcripts. However, there up-regulated transcripts related ribosome biogenesis protein processing. vaccinated did not demonstrate enrichment. Down-regulated genes on other hand involved cytoskeleton organization apoptosis, indicating cellular disruption might potential hindrance effective immunity. Overall, these results provide first regulation host responses pathogen Moreover, detection total 13 differential expressed miRNAs, including regulators innate immunity-related such as Toll-like receptor 18, suggests for play role post-transcriptional control defenses.

Abstract Parasitic infections can be occasionally severe in the European marine aquaculture industry, including Mediterranean region, as they incur considerable financial losses. Due to lack of commercial vaccines, therapeutic approaches seem only measure battle parasitic outbreaks. Integrated strategies and increased resilience hosts, may limit some degree level infestation. Ectoparasitic therapy is traditionally based on baths, with few exceptions. Several antiparasitic compounds have been registered aquatic medicine combat mainly salmon sea lice; however, them are readily used against fish parasites. Formalin less commonly hydrogen peroxide baths applied ectoparasites region. Most anti‐lice antiparasitics limited potential perhaps due their adverse environmental impact. Future therapies parasites will rely effective substances ensuring consumer, animal, welfare. Ideally, dietary such praziquantel exhibiting mild impact high efficacy a wide range pathogens should adopted. Moreover, combined integrated pest management, involving various management practices use chemicals, priority for specific The information presented this review guide future research promote prudent parasite control Mediterranean‐farmed fish.

Previous reports on the effects of probiotics farmed fish have focused more dietary supplementation, and this study evaluated Pseudomonas stutzeri F2 supplementation in rearing water juvenile spotted seabass (Lateolabrax maculatus). Different from control group (T0), where ammonia nitrogen levels were reduced by exchange circulation system, T1 T2 groups supplemented with low (3.0 × 103 CFU/mL) high 105 concentrations P. ability to remove nitrite, respectively. After 33 d rearing, weight gain rate, specific growth feed utilization survival rate experimental significantly improved (p < 0.05). activated superoxide dismutase (SOD), lysozyme (LZM) catalase (CAT) activities serum seabass; increased glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity liver while decreasing malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Microscopic observation tissue sections revealed muscle thickness mucosal fold height midgut. The changes gut microbiota 16 S rRNA gene sequencing a significant decline relative abundance Proteobacteria (phylum) Photobacterium (genus) groups. Aeromonas veronii challenge test assess disease resistance found that was highest. Our showed 3.0 CFU/mL performance seabass, innate immunity, microbiota, enhanced A. veronii, providing new idea for application probiotics.

The European seabass ( Dicentrarchus labrax ) and gilthead seabream Sparus aurata are key species in marine aquaculture, cultivated both EU North African/Levant Mediterranean regions. Production disparities between these areas emphasize a significant reliance on trade for juveniles, feed, other resources, posing notable biosecurity risks. Addressing shared health concerns across the requires regional approach to ensure successful management. A recent workshop delved into pivotal topics, including insights from concluded Horizon 2020 projects, effectiveness of nutraceuticals combating parasitic infections, legal considerations surrounding autogenous vaccines, updated knowledge betanodavirus measures aquaculture. Discussions also explored upcoming challenges such as sustainability cage-based production, impact climate change, enhancing diagnostic capabilities, fortifying measures, advocating education, fostering networking opportunities.
