Mammalian hair is a source of biological information and can be used in genetic, toxicological, hormonal, ecological studies. However, non-invasive collection methods are still little explored. This study aimed to describe validate passive methodology for collecting from jaguars (Panthera onca) evaluate its viability different analyses. was conducted the Northern Pantanal, where synthetic fiber mats were installed strategic locations passively capture hair. The presence animals samples monitored by camera traps over period 30 days. collected subjected morphological analyses electron microscopy, molecular tests genetic sex identification, isotopic heavy metal results showed that hairs well preserved, allowing structural identification material. confirmed DNA studies revealed specific concentrations metals stable isotopes. proposed proved effective promising alternative obtaining without directly interfering with behavior animals.
