Vegetables are important economic crops globally, and their production has approximately doubled over the past 20 years. Globally, vegetables account for 13% of harvested area but consume 25% fertilizer, leading to serious environmental impacts. However, quantitative evaluation vegetable systems in subtropical plateau lake basins establishment optimal management practices further reduce risks still lacking. Using life cycle assessment method, this study quantified global warming, eutrophication, acidification, energy depletion potential a basin China based on data from 183 farmer surveys. Our results indicated that area, Erhai Lake Basin, was high came at cost, mainly due low fertilizer efficiency nutrient loss. Root have relatively costs significant impacts production, transportation, application. A comprehensive analysis showed region exhibited net ecosystem benefits, with ranges 7.88–8.91 × 10 3 7.35–8.69 $ ha −1 , respectively. Scenario adopting strategies comprehensively consider soil, crop, conditions can (with reductions warming (GWP), eutrophication (EP), acidification (AP), (EDP) by 10.6–28.2%, 65.1–73.5%, 64.5–71.9%, 47.8–70.4%, respectively) compared current farmers. This highlighted importance optimizing farmers’ practices, which achieve more yield less thereby avoid “trade-off” effect between productivity sustainability.
