In this paper we report two high-powered and pre-registered experiments, testing the robustness conceptual development of reciprocity social norm appeals. Both experiments assessed both psychological processes for complying with these appeals pro-environmental behavioral intention in tourism settings. Experiment 1 (N = 2004), participants reported lower reactance levels after learning that hotel engaged resource conservation (i.e., indirect homeomorphic reciprocity). No statistically significant effect was obtained either obligatory motivation, prosocial skepticism, or intentions to reuse towels. Importantly, high baseline reusing towels might have limited Therefore, targeted meat consumption 2 (n 2540). Results first showed stronger motivation all three appeals, compared standard appeal. results were found skepticism. Residents of rural tourism destinations are the core participants in organizing and carrying out activities. Therefore, guiding them to implement pro-environmental behaviors (PEB) daily lives is crucial for promoting ecological civilization construction achieving sustainable tourism. Combining Theory Planned Behavior (TPB) Normative Activation Model (NAM), this study develops a theoretical model driving factors PEB among destination residents by considering moderating effect environmental policies. Empirical analysis conducted using survey data from Sichuan Province, China, explain occurrence path PEBs aspects egoistic altruistic attributes, policy factors. The research results indicate that perceived behavioral control attitudes directly affect intention (PEI) residents, indirectly their PEBs, while subjective norms have no significant impact on PEI. personal activated through pathways "consequence awareness → norms" responsibility attribution norms", which turn PEIs, confirming attributes local residents. In addition, policies positive conversion PEI into PEB, but intervention effects vary across different dimensions.

Purpose This study aims to delve into the intricate dynamics of customers’ pro-environmental behavior, examining impact external stimuli like hotel green practices (as contextual factors); internal stimuli, i.e. perceived consumer effectiveness, environmental responsibility and self-identity individual social norms as factors, on engagement in sustainable consumption (CEISC) subsequent behaviors (PEBs). Design/methodology/approach An age-based quota sampling technique was used gather data from customers visiting hotels Pakistan. Combatting climate change requires motivating individuals to adopt climate-friendly behaviors, whether make individual lifestyle changes, vote for environmental policy, or accept technological innovations. Efforts promote such behaviors can be more effective when informed by theoretically and empirically driven insights into human behavior change—an endeavor led persuasion research. This review explores the intersection of research behavior, demonstrating how theory applied encourage action. Key theoretical approaches are examined, including planned social norms, narrative-based persuasion, framing, emotional appeals, along with considerations their practical applications. Additionally, promising future directions integrating interventions highlighted; these include tailoring messages based on moral foundations transtheoretical model, as well leveraging artificial intelligence personalize recommendations. Greenery spaces, water bodies, architectural features, recreational sustainable design may not only enhance mental health but also foster a love for responsibility toward environment. This study proposed structural equation modeling to evaluate causal relationship between experiences awareness by examining roles of preferences emotional responses. The findings indicated that (1) when students frequently engage with elements in university, they tend attach landscape, fostering sense belonging appreciation healthy learning environments; (2) attachment develops positive emotions their surroundings; (3) value enjoy landscapes on campus, are more likely exhibit through actions like conserving resources, minimizing waste, engaging conservation activities. Grounded in capital theory cognitive theory, are categorized into five dimensions: norms, trust, networks, self-efficacy, outcome expectations. Structural equation modeling (SEM) fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) employed analyze field survey data uncover mechanisms through which these influence The results indicate that networks positively affect resettlers’ self-efficacy expectations, which, turn, have positive impact on fsQCA further identify configurations, consolidated three driving types: internal-external path, proactive capital-enabled path. By integrating perspectives cognition employing both SEM methodologies, this provides valuable insights policy-making related resettlers.
