Exploring the carbon balance pattern from perspective of urban spatial development is an effective way to solve emissions reduction problem, promote high-quality economic development, and synergize regional “nature–economy” dual system. Taking 105 counties (districts) in Anhui Province as example, based on calculation characteristics 2001, 2010, 2019, we used spatio-temporal leap model analyze combined GWTR geodetic probes explore temporal correlation between characteristics, well their influence mechanisms. The results study show that: (1) shows a general decline time axis, with small recovery, sequence decreases then increases north south. (2) structure southeast central stable, status good, but out balance, are much higher than sinks, mountainous areas west dynamic coordinated, harmony. (3) cities have negative impact at scale-area level positive functional level. Among them, area built-up number largest patches strong explanatory power for main driver heterogeneity balance. (4) budget under can be divided into four regions: development–carbon lopsided area, ecological protection–carbon surplus agglomeration–carbon adjustment potential enhancement–carbon equilibrium area. Based results, needs strengthen construction zones, when formulating low-carbon policies provinces uneven it necessary comprehensively differences build according local conditions.

Introduction Urban agglomerations (UAs) are core economic growth centres, and urban construction land is the main spatial carrier of growth. expansion a research hotspot, while previous studies have rarely compared characters determinants within outside UAs. Methods Considering case China, based on China Land Use/Cover Dataset (CLUD), this study use statistics analysis Theil index to compare spatiotemporal characteristics UAs during 1990–2020. Economic models used detect difference influencing factors Results As for characteristics, mainly distributed UAs, especially in at high upper-middle development levels. In 1991–2020, accounted 77.58% total expansion, levels 71.58% The inequality between decreases with fluctuation. rate gradually exceeded that from 2011. driving factors, government stronger power than factors. were more influential agglomerations. Meanwhile, forces played important roles impact increased an upgrade UA level, whereas factors’ decreased level. Discussion findings provide scientific support management. territorial planning will be studied.
