ABSTRACT Microplastic pollution has emerged as a critical global environmental issue, significantly impacting urban areas due to high population densities and intense human activities. Global plastic production surged from 1.5 million metric tons in 1950 413.8 2023, exacerbating contamination. In Kerala, India, microplastic ecosystems escalated, affecting water bodies, soil, marine biodiversity. This review explores the governance strategies challenges addressing where constitutes 4%–6% of municipal waste. Monsoon runoff inadequate waste management exacerbate pollution, contributing concentrations aquatic environments organisms Kerala. Findings recent studies reveal elevated levels lakes, coastal beaches, seafood, highlighting urgent need for improved infrastructure, effective regulatory measures, community engagement. The also underscores necessity interdisciplinary research better understand sources, pathways, impacts Key recommendations include adoption robust frameworks, implementation advanced monitoring technologies, public education campaigns aimed at reducing By these factors, paper provides actionable insights policymakers stakeholders develop combat Kerala's settings.

Waterborne heavy metals pose significant threats to both the environment and public health, causing neurological damage, developmental disorders, organ cancer. It is essential address contamination of various water bodies by these hazardous substances due their persistent nature lack biodegradability. This review thoroughly explores traditional modern strategies utilized remedy sources contaminated with evaluates effectiveness potential scalability each method. A literature survey reveals several effective for removing from water: adsorption, flotation, ion exchange, chemical precipitation, membrane-based filtration, coagulation, flocculation, phytoremediation, electrochemical methods. In our examination, we discussed agents/adsorbents used, efficiency removal technique, operating conditions, intrinsic advantages disadvantages approach. Summarizing key findings, noted a focus on adsorption techniques; however, challenges include selectively diverse ions, prolonged retention times, cycling stability. While membrane methods are practical, issues like large-volume sludge formation exist. Although electrical-based appear promising, solutions needed industrial-scale separation as well. Prioritizing real wastewater samples in studies crucial. Future research should emphasize eco-friendly, cost-effective

Hydrogels have various potential applications due to their unique characteristics and recently, hydrogels been utilized as adsorbents in wastewater treatment because of ability remove contaminants from water. Constructing strong with high adsorption capabilities is crucial for effective treatment. Scientists researchers are working improve the properties by incorporating inorganic elements into polymer networks, which further reduces costs well simplifies preparation. Natural polymers like starch alginate widespread economic biological advantages, such biodegradability, biocompatibility, reduced toxicity, environmental friendliness, low cost. The pollutants onto use antimicrobial agents has garnered significant attention. This review paper summarizes latest studies on using endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), persistent organic (POPs), other emerging water environments along agents. In first step, different classes characterization techniques discussed. Next elaborated understand how these can be a candidate activities. While discussing application hydrogels, isothermal, kinetics thermodynamics models discussed highlight mechanism nature forces involved pollutants.
