Impact of effective connectivity within the Papez circuit on episodic memory: moderation by perivascular space function

The formation and retrieval of episodic memory is dependent on the coordinated activity multiple brain regions neural networks, with Papez circuit playing a critical role in this process. Recently, perivascular space (PVS) cognitive function has garnered increasing attention. However, PVS between circuits amnestic mild impairment (aMCI) patients remains unknown. Therefore, study aims to (1) investigate alterations effective connectivity aMCI (2) explore memory. Sixty participants, all whom underwent multimodal MRI (fMRI, dMRI, sMRI) neuropsychological testing, were recruited for case‒control study. General linear models used compare within healthy controls (HCs) further circuit, notably hippocampus, anterior cingulate cortex, parahippocampal gyrus, was significantly weakened patients. Moreover, significant reduction along (ALPS) index observed among patients, accompanied by marked increase volume, indicating dysfunction. Further moderation analysis revealed that moderated relationship are closely related function, particularly memory, enhancing may serve as novel therapeutic target slowing decline.
