In particular, news media can serve as an important stakeholder by influencing construction corporate legitimacy, informing government policy, and shaping public perception MNEs. Abstract International business research emphasizes the importance of geopolitics to multinational enterprise (MNE) strategic decision‐making. Yet, insights and evidence are dispersed across levels analysis disciplinary perspectives, making it difficult determine how exactly MNEs respond geopolitics. Leveraging a sample 97 papers from journals in strategy, international management, we clarify impact on home host country relations interplay with MNE In advancing existing knowledge boundaries, make sense responses geopolitically induced uncertainty by accounting for MNEs’ heterogeneous political capabilities investment real options. We show that when have strong capabilities, they often opt shaping engagement response influence home–host relations. However, weak limit investments flexible options restrict committed options, leading adaptive engagement, non‐engagement exit responses. Finally, outline an agenda future studies topic.
