Purpose The purpose of this study is to conceptualize and propose a framework for examining digital maturity (DM) competitiveness (DC) in small medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It aims provide an understanding on how DM can enhance organizational performance, innovation sustainable growth the context DC strategic change. Design/methodology/approach Delphi method used gather insights from 37 experts transformation change management Morocco. Using structured questionnaire IRaMuTeQ software, analyzes responses identify key themes related SMEs, providing comprehensive analytical framework. Findings research highlighted importance that includes strategy, leadership, information communication technology infrastructure customer orientation assess DM. found SMEs face significant barriers such as skills shortages, financial constraints infrastructural deficits. Despite these challenges, there strong recognition role technologies enhancing internal processes competitiveness. calls customer-focused strategies dematerialized achieve operational efficiency sustainability. Practical implications This provides with practical steps improve their should focus simplifying by moving away paper-based systems, adopting tools like cloud services artificial intelligence (AI) boost developing offer better value. Policymakers support businesses offering aid tools, creating programs building stronger infrastructure. By doing so, become more adaptable, efficient competitive today’s world. This study examines the specific capabilities that drive SME export intensity during COVID-19, highlighting role of digital platforms. Drawing on a survey 174 exporters in Thailand, findings reveal innovation, persistence, and knowledge acquisition significantly enhance intensity. However, intensive usage platforms diminishes contributes theoretically by integrating capabilities-based view with contingency theory, revealing differently based market uncertainty. Thus, learning to leverage alongside core value capabilities, adapting each capability degree uncertainty, is crucial.

Published: Dec. 5, 2024

Purpose This study aims to investigate the “digitalization paradox” in manufacturing digital transformation, where significant investments technology may not necessarily lead increased returns. Specifically, it explores intricate relationship between convergence, financial performance, productivity and technological innovation listed Chinese firms, drawing upon theories of knowledge networks. Design/methodology/approach Using a large panel data from 747 firms China’s sector their 428,927 patents spanning 2013 2022, this research first quantifies firm-level convergence through patent network analysis. Furthermore, employs hierarchical regression analysis instrumental variable method curvilinear performance. moderating role firms’ is tested. Findings Three types (DTC) are delineated quantified: local authority (DegreeDTC), with heterogeneous (BetweenessDTC) shortest-path technologies (ClosenessDTC, higher value signifies more conservative shorter path adopting technologies). Network visualization shows that firms' DTC has consistently over time. Contrary traditional assumptions, our reveals U-shaped (specifically, DegreeDTC BetweenessDTC) characterized by negative correlation at lower levels positive one levels. The joint effect significantly strengthens relationship. These findings robust across series robustness checks. Practical implications Our offer practical insights for both managers policymakers. We recommend balanced approach management within paradigm. Manufacturing can generate economic strategically choosing either shrink or expand application areas, thereby reducing uncertainties related emerging convergent businesses. Additionally, underscores synergistic strategy combining productivity. Within business context, integrating only enhances cost flexibility but also improves problem-solution matching, ultimately amplifying benefits. Originality/value To best knowledge, apply co-occurrence unveil nuanced relationships “DTC – finance performance” sector. It challenges conventional thinking regarding common convergence. provides comprehensive DTC, dynamics, as well offers managerial Highlights (1) quantify find consistent increases (2) A being (3) reinforces distributing costs enhancing (4) challenge existing literature uncovering complex performance”, contrary popular belief monotonic
