In this study, we explore the potential of eugenyl acetate (EAc), a naturally occurring ester eugenol, as biobased plasticizer to overcome intrinsic brittleness polylactide (PLA) derived from starch. A theoretical assessment miscibility between PLA and EAc is carried out. Our findings demonstrate that shows exceptional with PLA, confirmed by their similar solubility parameters (EAc-19.83 MPa1/2, PLA-20.66 MPa1/2), an interaction parameter χ = 0.39. The incorporation improves ductility strain at break increasing 427.7 % 20 wt% EAc, compared brittle 10.2 for neat PLA. plasticizing effect also leads considerable reduction in glass transition temperature 60.4 °C 35.7 EAc. Scanning electron microscopy reveals no phase separation development plastic deformation formulations 15-20 Additionally, all plasticized exhibit full biodegradation controlled compost conditions <8 weeks. These results contribute advancing PLA-based are both high-performance eco-friendly, supporting broader goals sustainable polymer science.
