This study presents the synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of hybrid hydrogels based on calcium alginate (Ca-Alg) synthetic nanoclay LaponiteRD (Lap), with an emphasis their swelling sorption properties. The motivation behind development these stems from need for sustainable materials enhanced mechanical strength, properties, capacity environmental remediation controlled-release applications. Synthesis methods ionotropically cross-linked Ca-Alg hydrogel Alg–Lap composite hydrogels, Alg Lap in form granules fibres, have been developed. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), diffraction (XRD) analyses confirmed successful incorporation into matrix, indicating strong interactions between polymer clay, which structural integrity hydrogels. morphology surface pore structure nanocomposites were studied using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). behaviour was largely dependent concentrations cross-linking agent (CaCl2), higher leading to more rigid, less swellable structures due increased density. studies, specifically Fe(II) ions, demonstrated that possess a large capacity, contributing selective at lower ion enhancing overall concentrations. suggests synergistic interaction not only improves stability but also tailors properties These findings position Alg-Lap as promising range applications, including wastewater treatment, heavy metal removal, design advanced filtration systems. study’s insights tunability pave way further research use diverse fields such biomedicine, agriculture, industrial water management.
