Abstract Annually the poultry industry releases millions of tons feather waste into environment. With a protein content 91%, offers huge potential to serve as an animal feed supplement. However, keratin, main component feather, is highly resistant hydrolysis by and plant proteases. The use physicochemical methods hydrolyze in addition being expensive, cause decomposition some amino acids. Thus, microbial bioconversion attractive option for production useful products. In this study, alkaliphilic degrading strain, Bacillus pseudofirmus BCC026 was isolated from Makgadikgadi salt pan Botswana. When grown liquid culture containing sole source nitrogen, it resulted complete solubilization within 48 72 h. organism also produced alkaline protease, soluble proteins, peptides/amino acids medium. enzyme showed optimum activity pH range 7.5–10.5 at 70°C. It active stable commercial detergents removal stain cotton fabrics. effective removing hair goatskin indicating its dehairing application. Microbial growth substrates are known account significant proportion cost industrial enzymes. Since protease using cheap readily available resource, could be significantly reduced. Moreover, after recovery, proteins filtrate used different applications.
