Urea stands as a ubiquitous environmental contaminant. However, not only does urea oxidation reaction technology facilitate energy conversion, but it also significantly contributes to treating wastewater rich in urea. Furthermore, electrolysis has lower theoretical potential (0.37 V) compared water (1.23 V). As an electrochemical reaction, the catalytic efficacy of is largely contingent upon catalyst employed. Among plethora electrocatalysts, nickel-based compounds emerge preeminent transition metal due their cost-effectiveness and heightened activity oxidation. Ni(OH)2 endowed with manifold advantages, including structural versatility, facile synthesis, stability alkaline environments. This review delineates recent advancements catalysts for electrocatalytic encapsulating pivotal research findings morphology, dopant incorporation, defect engineering, heterogeneous architectures. Additionally, we have proposed personal insights into challenges encountered on nickel hydroxide oxidation, aiming promote efficient conversion its practical applications.
