Paving the way out of sustainable energy applications, one most captivating aspirations is development state-of-the-art catalytic systems for harnessing hydrogen energy. Here, a unique MoSe2–MoS2/ZnO heterojunction with S-scheme-type band alignment has been modeled to elucidate its ascendancy toward PC, EC, and PEC generation. Optimized 5 wt % (5MMZ) exhibited 5-fold superior PC H2 production efficiency than bare ZnO, 58.6% AQY ascribed augmented solar harvesting improved photophysical properties as confirmed by optoelectronic theoretical analysis. Femtosecond transient absorption studies were carried provide deeper insights into photoinduced charge carrier behavioral dynamics. It revealed that delayed recombination electron carriers at shallow deep trap sites holes was accountable higher activity 5MMZ heterostructure. XPS DFT ascertained great deal correlation between experimental achievements predictions discussed in reaction mechanism. To determine diversified scope heterojunctions green generation, photo/electrochemical water splitting operations also performed, which further reinforced versatility this kind metal oxide (ZnO)-bilayered material (MoSe2–MoS2)-type ternary heterostructures.

For stepping toward a sustainable future, reducing carbon footprints by generation of clean source energy is viable option that captivates researchers all around the globe. Hydrogen in form renewable resource has achieved status and perceived as feasible alternative fossil derivative fuels ascribed to higher gravimetric density, which offers superior efficiency over conventional fuels. However, nature H2 synthetic route determinant for production. Traditional gray production generated via catalyzes global warming. Therefore, there need develop environmentally benign methodologies such green blue routes are discussed this review article comparing distinct methods with minimal emission, along their merits demerits. We have precisely optimization photocatalytic evolution optimizing cost catalytic system terms sustainability. Exploitation cheap noble metal free catalysts been stressed generating H2. The research domain underlines significance attaining carbon-neutral society respect economy its techno-economic analysis scalable applicability.

Sustainable H2 energy generation through water splitting prevalently demands systematically designed multifaceted state-of-the-art catalysts. Herein, unique Te–MoTe2–MoS2/ZnO heterostructured nanocatalysts were engineered hydrothermally for photo-/electro-/photoelectrochemical functionalities probed to ascertain the catalytic efficiency toward production. Optimized 2.5% (2.5TMMZ) heterojunctions performed at an applicable standard with a production rate of 5.2 (mmol/gcat)/h 41% AQY during photochemical experiments. Fs-TAS studies confirmed delayed lifetime active charge carriers shallow and deep trap sites in heterostructure. Electrochemical corroborated remarkable HER OER activities 2.5TMMZ −0.51 0.76 V overpotentials. Photoelectrochemical investigations deciphered potential as it yielded nearly 3-fold higher photocurrent density than ZnO. To achieve equilibrium between conductivity–stability system, Te/S edge Te–MoTe2–MoS2 exhibited affinity H+ adsorption, whereas ZnO end catalyst took care photosensitization demonstrated via optoelectronic theoretical characterizations alongside S-scheme mechanism.
