Layered double hydroxides (LDH) are considered as interesting containers for corrosion inhibitors, since they exhibit high ability to release inhibitor well capture aggressive ions from aqueous solution. Epoxy containing organo-modified LDH filler intercalated with ethylenediamine-N,N′-disuccinate anions (EDDS), [Zn2Al(OH)6]+ [EDDS]4−0.25 . 2H2O (LDH-EDDS) loading 0% 1.25% were coated onto carbon steel plates. The efficiency of these coatings against (barrier properties and inhibitors) was assessed by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. evolution the modulus |Z| at low frequency range during time showed that 0.75% LDH-containing epoxy (thickness 80 μm) exhibited highest resistance in series associated value 3 mHz (1010 Ω cm2 after 21 days immersion 0.1 mol L−1 NaCl solution) placed it among best solutions published so far cargo carrying a inhibitor. behavior this polymer composite compared free-LDH coating plotting resistivity profiles along thickness function time. These results (i) presence LDH-EDDS delayed penetration water molecules, (ii) limited steel. inhibit process explained an exchange between interleaved species occurring released EDDS4− Cl− being captured.
