Abstract Theories such as the somatic marker hypothesis posit that emotions and feedback from bodily states support higher cognition decision-making. This study investigated connection between decision-making activity of startle reflex, a defense reflex is sensitive to emotional states. Decision-making was assessed using Iowa Gambling Task (IGT), which simulates real-life with respect complexity uncertainty. The quantified, via electromyography, eyeblink following intense noise stimulation during viewing pleasant, neutral, unpleasant pictures. Forty-two healthy participants were classified according their performance on IGT median-split method. Overall, amplitude lower pleasant pictures than neutral Participants high exhibited smaller response amplitudes those low performance, independent picture valence. Furthermore, inverse linear associations seen amplitudes. association may be mediated by individual differences in state. According previous studies, positive state, opposed negative relates preference for strategies based intuition body-related information (i.e., markers), are beneficial situations involving complex uncertain decisions.
