Abstract Digital twins are enjoying widespread and growing success in both theoretical practical applications. A recent development that is gaining increasing traction the application of digital to cities. The aim this article discuss whether there inherent limitations case. At present, scientific literature on urban dominated by “technical” approaches. Critical investigation – especially from a philosophical perspective still at its beginnings. This aims contribute line inquiry. It mainly analytical. On basis specific conceptual framework, it examines their applications contexts. starts distinguishing among simple, complicated complex systems, reaches conclusion that, while using generally appropriate (and often helpful) first two these some structural use case systems. In latter case, depend certain distinctive aspects such as emergent unpredictable nature, role played regard “dispersed knowledge” (that is, form diffused knowledge crucial for functioning large systems but cannot be collected re-unified because, coherent integrated whole, does not exist anywhere).

Digitalization, with its potential to enhance the openness of client–contractor knowledge collaboration (KC) at front end complex engineering projects, is gaining traction among project scholars and practitioners. Despite this growing interest, actors still struggle bring client contractor experts into an open, digitally enabled collaborative space where they can freely access cocreate project-related knowledge. In context, our case study explores KC in front-end phase oil gas projects Norway understand why achieve digital age. Based on qualitative analysis, we developed a model that displays two intertwined aspects giving rise tensions between sharing protection. First, show these stem from fragmented awareness expertise collaborating organization. Second, highlight how intrainstitutional complexity, instantiated coexisting conflicting logics action, underlies divergent beliefs behavior toward digitalization. We offer novel insights management literature by showcasing organizational heterogeneity, terms institutions, challenges organizations' pursuit during phase.

Integrating blockchain and digital twins in healthcare offers a secure dynamic way to share patient data. Blockchain technology secures data through encryption, audit trails, giving patients control over access. Digital create virtual simulate health conditions personalize treatments. This integration improves sharing across providers by establishing common formats breaking down silos, which ultimately benefits with better care coordination, privacy, personalized medicine. However, challenges like scalability, complying regulations, building trust among users need be addressed for this widely adopted.

Digital twins, dynamic virtual replicas of physical entities, are transforming industries by enabling real-time monitoring, predictive insights, and optimization. While their adoption in fields such as healthcare, manufacturing, urban planning promises unparalleled advancements, it also raises critical ethical, privacy, security concerns. This chapter examines the multifaceted challenges associated with digital twin technology, focusing on societal, legal, technical implications use. Privacy risks emerge from extensive collection processing sensitive data, unauthorized access potentially leading to breaches, discrimination, or misuse. Ethical issues include algorithmic bias, inequitable decision-making, accountability gaps, particularly sectors like healthcare governance. Security vulnerabilities, cyberattacks interconnected systems, highlight need for robust measures safeguard data infrastructure.

A digital twin (DT) is a virtual/digital model of any physical object (physical twin), interconnected through data exchange. In the context Industry 4.0, DTs are integral to intelligent automation driving innovation at scale by providing significant improvements in precision, flexibility, and real-time responsiveness. critical challenge developing achieving that reflects conditions with precision flexibility. This paper focuses on evaluating latency accuracy, key metrics for assessing efficacy DT, which often hinder scalability adaptability robotic applications. article presents comprehensive framework using Unity Robot Operating System (ROS) as main layers digitalization communication. The MoveIt package was used motion planning execution arm, showcasing framework’s versatility independent proprietary constraints. Leveraging open-source nature these tools, ensures interoperability, adaptability, scalability, crucial modern smart manufacturing Our approach validated conducting extensive accuracy tests. We measured timestamping messages exchanged between twin, 77.67 ms. Accuracy assessed comparing joint positions DT arm over multiple cycles, resulting an rate 99.99%. results highlight potential enhancing operational efficiency decision-making environments.
