With pronounced morphological and phenological diversity, garden roses have always been part of urban plantings. The significance in ornamental utilitarian (edible) horticulture can significantly be amended with novel ecosystem services, by shifting their breeding targets towards more than aesthetic nutritional value. Thus the aim this paper was to investigate possibilities newly bred (within past decade) from ‘Mella’ series as a possible ornamental, disease tolerant bee attracting cultivars recommended ecosystems, adding values current services. Research goals were determine characteristics; honey wild bees’ abundance its correlation rose floral resistance/tolerance main fungal diseases; suitability greenery providing multiple Plant material included seven series. Analyses complete morphological—qualitative quantitative characterization plant flower traits, fragrance panel scoring volatile components analyses, counts bees visiting flowers different species potential pollinators. Based on obtained results significant variability vegetative generative characteristics noted investigated roses. ‘naturalistic’ overall appearance, comparable roses, differed height habitus, number type flowers, leaf coloration glossiness, but ‘Barbie Mella’ ‘Ruby positioned most decorative ones. highly scored for fragrance, divergent records mixed compounds, characterized balanced ratio (almost 1:1:1) between aromatic alcohol + terpenoids, straight-chain alkanes long-chain alkanes. In relation bee’s attraction, combination height, (single, simple), diameter accessibility seems crucial, rather any characteristic solely. As an outstanding bee-attractor should promoted disease-tolerant cultivar. Due values, tolerance visitations, ‘Barbie’, ‘Ruby’, ‘Ducat’ ‘Exotic’ planted semi-natural gardens/landscapes, concomitantly contributing services—provisioning, regulating, cultural supporting. Until worldwide availability, other ‘Mella’-like cultivated likewise.

Essential oils (EOs) are complex mixtures of volatile hydrocarbons with a wide range applications in the pharmaceutical, fragrance and food industry. The composition EOs is highly variable can affect their quality pharmaceutical efficacy. Moreover, high economic value EOs, such as those obtained from Rosa damascena, make falsification misclassification lucrative business. Consequently, adulterations lead to serious health consequences for consumers. While current control methods involve analysing chromatographic profile or comparing Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, these be time-consuming lack sensitivity. To address issues, we compared state-of-the-art methods, including gas chromatography flame ionization detection (GC-FID) quantification enantiomeric ratio determination, FT-IR spectrometry dielectric barrier discharge coupled triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (DBDI-MS), chemometric single- multi-block approach. Our results show that best classification accuracy 94.7% R. damascena samples was using GC-FID combined partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). Comparatively, ratios did not improve accuracy. In contrast, fragmentation data DBDI-MS (Q3), which acquired fraction time without extensive sample preparation, achieved 84.2%. We also found combining parent ion (Q1) sequentially orthogonalized squares linear (SO-PLS-LDA) model improved accuracy, respective single-block PLS-DA models.Overall, our study demonstrates DBDI, an ambient method, has significant potential high-throughput screening. When MS, it produce comparable accuracies conventional while offering added benefits speed convenience. As such, promising tool EO control.
