Abstract Synthetic dyes represent a serious hazard to aquatic environments. Many approaches for eliminating these contaminants have been devised and applied. This manuscript reports the production of novel, low-cost ecologically friendly bioadsorbent based on hemp fibers that are functionalized with graphite oxide through bridging an organosilane. Methylene blue was selected as typical pollutant be removed from wastewaters. The adsorbent characterized scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. An investigation effects pH temperature adsorption process carried out. capacity increased increasing contact time well temperature, proving shows endothermic behavior. Moreover, found dependent level and, corroborate collected results, point zero charge evaluated. maximum 57 mg/g, which achieved following parameters: = 7.5, T 80 °C initial dye concentration equal 5 mg/L. Reusability studies showed 15% decrease in after 30 tests, possibility reusing produced without any great decay performance. Finally, potential mechanism is reported discussed. results prove it feasible apply designed organic purification Graphical abstract
