Digital talent has emerged as a pivotal resource for advancing artificial intelligence (AI) within enterprises, and it constitutes critical digital asset that firms prioritize in their AI development strategies, aiming to attract retain such talent. To elucidate the interconnections mechanisms linking backgrounds of executives with level utilization this study undertakes an examination relationship between these two variables, drawing on sample Chinese A-share listed companies spanning from 2012 2022. The research findings are follows: (1) presence substantial number company significantly enhances enterprise. (2) influence executives’ enterprises is modulated through enhancement enterprise’s total factor productivity. (3) Executives’ elevate by bolstering proficiency applying technology. (4) Heterogeneity analysis, conducted based nature enterprise property rights, geographical regions, technological proficiency, reveals positive effect more pronounced private compared state-owned enterprises. Regionally, impact diminishes progressively eastern central western regions. Robustness checks, including substitution key model alteration, application instrumental variable method, Heckman two-stage confirm persistence findings. This article contributes understanding pathways which against backdrop high-quality economic development. It enriches scholarly discourse offering both theoretical support practical insights advancement
