Abstract Red mud (RM), one kind of waste from the alumina industry, was used to prepare 600‐RM catalyst and a series xHCl‐RM catalysts. The catalytic pyrolysis moso bamboo conducted evaluate performance prepared showed slight increase in content Fe, Al, Ca Si, modest enlargement pore volume diameter. catalysts exhibited well‐structured hierarchical porosity enhanced specific surface area. After acid treatment, contents Si increased noticeably, with almost complete removal Na Ca. Thermal stability significantly improved compared P‐RM. results that over high selectivity for phenols (59.81%, biomass/catalyst = 1/1 w/w) alcohols (16.35%, w/w), facilitated by CaO promoting bond cleavage free radical reactions. In addition, demonstrated activity furans (23.11%) carbonyl compounds (28.43%), 4HCl‐RM performing best. It could be attributed cracking ability Fe 2 O 3 Al on cellulose hemicellulose. biomass‐to‐catalyst mass ratio affected yield small molecular products, showing nonlinear trend.
