prevalence

older
adults

increase
alongside
rapid
urban
development.
Scant
attention
has
been
paid,
however,
how
exposure
urbanicity
over
the
life
course
affects
adults'
depressive
symptoms,

in
China,
which
undergone
substantial
recent
urbanization.
Using
data
from
China
Health
and
Retirement
Longitudinal
Study
(CHARLS)
with
its
Life
History
Survey,
this
study
adopts
a
life-course
approach
examine
accumulative
sequenced
effects
1992
2018
on
symptoms
adults,
mediating
roles
social
relationships.
Multilevel
regression
analysis,
clustered
at
city
level,
reveals
that
higher
cumulative
is
associated
reduced
constant
or
increased
levels
during
middle
adulthood.
This
protective
effect
remains
robust
against
potential
influence
health-selective
migration
but
varies
by
sex
socioeconomic
status.
Relationships
