National analysis of hospital-presenting suicidal ideation and self-harm among males

Abstract
Objectives:
There
is
evidence
of
increasing
rates
hospital
presentations
for
suicidal
crisis,
and
emergency
departments
(EDs)
are
described
as
an
intervention
point
suicide
prevention.
Males
account
three
in
every
four
suicides
Ireland
up
to
twice
likely
females
eventually
die
by
following
a
presentation
crisis.
This
study
therefore
aimed
profile

characteristics
ED
ideation
self-harm
acts
among
males

clinical

nurses
within

Methods:

Abstract
Background
Suicide
among
male
construction
workers
are
reported
to
be
disproportionally
high
compared
the
working
age
population.
However,
there
is
minimal
understanding
of
prevalence
and
associated
factors
for
suicidal
ideation,
non-suicidal
self-injury,
suicide
attempt

occupational
group
globally.
Methods
A
cross-sectional
study
was
conducted

large

Ireland
