The aim of this study was to highlight the interrelationship between environmental, social, and economic pillars agricultural sustainability their impact on rural development in EU countries. By considering cumulative influence 15 economic, environmental indicators, clustered countries into five homogeneous groups using principal component analysis cluster analysis. research findings confirm that there is a significant trade-off three dimensions sustainability, particularly dimension, one hand, socio–economic other. Thus, main real challenges identified for included 5 (Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Hungary) are related pillar sustainability.
