The shape memory effect (SME) and superelasticity (SE) of NiTi alloys (SMAs) were reported to be severely affected by grain size (GS) temperature. temperature on the GS-dependent SME SE polycrystalline SMAs underlying mechanisms have not yet been comprehensively understood. In this work, a new diffuse boundary energy related misorientation among adjacent grains is introduced into phase field model. studied systematic simulations. It turns out that both critical GSs for twinned martensite nucleation termination propagation increase with increasing since internal stress (decreases decreasing GS) gradually becomes unable break through hindrance (increases barrier temperature) transformation. After processes, residual strain in increases GS because (related deformation incompatibility) insufficient prompt complete reverse transformation when relatively large. This phenomenon can relieved (due reduced barrier).
