Although there have been many studies on the morphology of ceria and its effect catalytic reaction rates, these mainly focused oxidation reactions, is little understanding influence performance methoxy carbonylation. This study investigated different morphologies rate ethylene carbonylation when ruthenium was loaded surface. The results showed that Ru cubic CeO2 demonstrated a higher than rod- octahedral-shaped were used. When anchored to (100) facet possessed, oxygen vacancy obtained for activation CH3OH overall Ru0 CO C2H4 once catalyst reduced, both which enabled high MP production. DFT calculation revealed difference in binding energies between facets resulting from affected experimentally observed contents Ru-O-Ce. At last, mechanism methoxycarbonylation studied by situ DRIFTS, pathway proposed.
