interest
in
using
waste-to-energy
(WtE)
technology
toward
a
circular
economy
(CE)
is
developing,

challenges

solid
waste
dumping,
pollution,
and
resource
depletion.
Incineration,
pyrolysis,
gasification,
landfill,
anaerobic
digestion
are
standard
WtE
technologies.
Although
these
methods
have
been
used
for
many
decades,
all
countries
try
to
implement
the
best
plans
based
on
their
technologies
capacities.
Therefore,
an
up-to-date
comprehensive
study
needed
evaluate
existing
barriers
draw
logical
roadmap
CE.

This
study
aims
at
reviewing
the
scientific
literature
related
to
microplastic
(MP)
pollution
in
various
environmental
matrices
India
and
highlighting
research
gaps
for
future
priorities.
Currently
used
methods
sampling,
extraction,
identification,
characterization
quantification
of
MPs
were
assessed,
sources,
distribution,
transport
pathways,
fate,
impacts,
chemical
risks
MP-biota
interactions
marine
freshwater
ecosystems
examined.
Studies
on
spatial
temporal
pathways
are
very
scarce,
especially
w.r.t.
river
discharge,
anthropogenic
activities,
beach
morphology,
bottom
topography,
biofouling
hydrodynamics.
Though
some
amount
baseline
data
select
regions
along
Indian
coast
have
been
generated,
extent
MP
air,
major
rivers
nearshore
continental
shelf
is
still
poorly
understood.
Moreover,
this
highlights
an
urgent
need
harmonized
standardized
sampling
analytical
research,
that
can
enable
us
comparisons
around
world
meaningful.
