Alternative sources of energy are highly recommended in most parts the world including Malawi. The purpose this study was to assess alternative charcoal. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used purposive random sampling techniques applied two different stages respectively. first phase a selection village which produce use charcoal, second charcoal producers. Data analyzed SPSS version 21 MS Excel. About three-quarters forest cover has been depleted due production. Results also revealed that only 32% respondents energy: briquettes (8%), biogas (2%), solar (1%), electricity (20%), coal (1%). In addition, 42% as main source income while 58% have other generation. include; produced from farm waste, addition hydroelectricity is expensive. It concluded increased production constitutes serious setback transitioning energy. There need for government policymakers provide favourable environment small producers provision subsidies like hydroelectricity.

Biogas, consisting mainly of CO2 and CH4, offers a sustainable source energy. However, this gaseous stream has been undervalued in wastewater treatment plants owing to its high content. Biogas upgrading by capturing broadens utilisation as substitute for natural gas. Although biogas is widely studied topic, only up 35% produced raw upgraded the world. To open avenues development research on upgrading, paper reviews component global renewable energy production technologies focusing electrochemically driven capture systems. Recent progress electrochemical separation including requirement, recovery rate, challenges upscaling are critically explored. Electrochemical systems stand out achieving most affordable technology among with low net requirement 0.25 kWh/kg CO2. lower rate compared conventional technologies, which leads capital expenditure limits commercialisation technology. In last part review, future perspectives overcome associated discussed.
