This article presents a comprehensive study on the efficacy of xanthan gum (XG) biopolymer as green construction material in treating problematic expansive subgrade. The soil was treated with various concentrations XG (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 5.0%) considering long-term aging period 4, 7, 14, 28, 60 365 days). results showed reduction plasticity at higher increase content. At 1.5% content unconfined compressive strength, elastic modulus, resilient unsoaked soaked CBR values were notably increased by 5–10 orders magnitude regarded optimum. Meanwhile, microstructural studies coupled elemental analysis highlight bridging particles stiff XG-hydrogel formation that contributes to strength development. Overall, XG-treatment exhibits an economical sustainable solution for treatment

This article presents the potential application of paper/wood industry waste by-products, i.e. lignosulphonate (LS) in conjunction with lime (LM) [i.e. LS-based cementing admixture (LSCA)] to mitigate desiccation induced cracking and mechanical vulnerabilities expansive soil subgrade. The results showed that LSCA significantly ameliorated consistency, subgrade strength characteristics (i.e. California bearing ratio resilient modulus), completely mitigated swelling enhanced resistance against Sr. Moreover, LM notably reduced 3D-volumetric shrinkage crack intensity factor (CIF) by 90.1 87.4%, respectively. mineralogical microstructural analyses manifested new cementitious compounds hydrates calcium silicate aluminate), substantially interlocking among particles compared untreated LS-treated soils. Besides, pavement thickness treated subgrade, omits provision sand cushion sub-base course promoting road material conservation.

Abstract Expansive clays with high plasticity need to be stabilized prevent hazards that may arise due the extreme volume changes experienced moisture fluctuations. Utilizing a kind of natural and eco-friendly sustainable fiber named as basalt into soils has become new issue needs expanded in scope. In this paper, plastic soil was by these fibers reduce possible soil-induced disasters. Basalt different lengths were mixed clay at varied amounts. Due soil’s sensitivity water, samples prepared distinct water contents, 2 on dry 3 wet side optimum. To question whether strength loss change can regained or not, tests performed both samples. Through tests, it revealed expansive enhanced up 280% content 2%. The highest obtained approximately 880 kPa mixing 24 mm 15% 1 2% ratios. As anticipated, long (24 mm) supplied real reinforcement even contents. addition, data set used train machine learning algorithms (linear, ridge, lasso, support vector, decision tree) have just started applied geotechnical engineering. Results proved that, tree regression outperformed stress strain 0.85 R -squared ( ) 0.91 estimation. Additionally, from feature importance analyses an 85% 97% strain.
