To meet environmental goals while maintaining economic competitiveness, worldwide ports have increased the amount of renewable energy production and focused in optimizing performances efficiency. However, carbon-neutral operation industrial port areas (IPA) is challenging requires decarbonization processes heavy transport systems. This study proposes a comprehensive review strategies for IPA, with particular focus on role that green hydrogen could play when used as carrier. Port operations, essential for global trade, are energy-intensive and heavily reliant on fossil fuels. Transitioning to renewable energy can reduce their carbon footprint enhance resilience sustainability. Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) offer a collaborative decentralized framework integrating into port facilities. However, authorities maritime stakeholders face challenges in design, implementation, particularly estimating outcomes benefits. Understanding the REC is crucial industry address current priorities.
