This study examines the effect of different rates and modes supplementary aeration on treatment synthetic septic tank effluent in a lab-scale unplanted constructed wetland-microbial fuel cell (CW-MFC) along with bioenergy generation. The experiment was conducted 4 sequential phases; 1) operated no (NA), 2&3) cathode layer continuously aerated under (CA-I CA-II), 4) intermittently (IA). Results showed that dissolved oxygen gradient caused by IA formed aerobic anoxic zones CW-MFC promoted total nitrogen removal. best performance observed intermittent where maximum removal efficiencies COD (96.8 ± 3.3 %), TN (62.3 2.1 TKN (68.3 2.0 NH3 (64.8 2.3 %) were achieved. Furthermore, this efficiency corresponded enhanced generation regime, achieving power output (7.5 mW/m2), highest average voltage (0.399 0.02 V), Coulombic (1.94 normalized energy recovery (1.4 Wh/m3). Continuous aeration, however, induced an adverse due to excessive penetration into anode region. Nitrate accumulation also as sign incomplete denitrification process continuous regime. Overall, it can be concluded not only lowers operational costs but improves effectiveness terms effluent.

Abstract The electrode played an essential role in the operation of CW-MFC system due to its synergistic effect, and development strategy has promoted application since 2012. In this paper, according material quantity, types were distinctly divided into unified model, composited modified multi-electrodes model combined with non-conductive or conductive particle. Different strategies provided improve performance towards electricity generation, removal pollutants, control greenhouse gas emission, coordination mechanism was further reviewed. Furthermore, process summarized, low-cost, sustainable, innovated materials emphatically recommended. For scale-up application, multi-electrode systematically reviewed based on optimizing material, shape, spacing distance, connection type electrode. This review may provide guidance maximize advantages applications. Graphical

A novel composite sulfur-manganese carbonate autotrophic denitrification (SMAD) system was developed to reduce sulfate production and provide pH buffer function while improving efficiency without external organics. The average removal of total nitrogen (TN) 98.09% 96.29%, that NO3−-N 99.53% 97.77%, respectively, in the SMAD with a hydraulic retention time (HRT) 6 h 3 h. They were significantly higher than controls (quartz sand, manganese ore, sulfur systems). H+ produced by (SAD) process promoted release Mn2+ system. And this had stable no accumulation NO2−-N. decrease formation Mn oxides through electron donation confirmed presence (MAD) Dominant functional bacteria Thiobacillus, Chlorobium, Sulfurimonas, which linked nitrogen, sulfur, conversion denitrification. Meanwhile, Flavobacterium participating oxidation found only provided new strategy for advanced tailwater treatment.
